The key to self-improvement is simply this: just a little each day adds up to a lot over time. Or as Bill Gates famously put it:

“We overestimate what we can accomplish in a year, but, underestimate what we can accomplish in a decade.

This simple concept was the basis for the name of this site -Just A Bit Better Every Day or JABBED. The idea is just like it says… make yourself just a bit better every day. Getting .1% better each day, means getting 36.5% better in a year. And, after that year, let’s say you get another 36.5% better the next year and the next.

To show the power of those kind of compounding improvements, let’s consider a financial example: say you put $1,000 into an investment that earns 36.5% interest annually. You would have $38,400 in your investment in 10 years. Pretty incredible right?

But, how about in 20 years? Well, in 20 years that paltry $1,000 would have grown into a cool $1,474,000. The growth becomes even more bonkers from there due to the power of those compounding daily improvements.

This is the power that is available to you if you invest in daily self-improvement. The knowledge you gain, the relationships you foster, the skills you develop, all compound upon each other, giving you greater and greater momentum toward your dreams with each day, week, and month that passes.

The Person You Need to Become

People don’t find themselves, they make themselves everyday by what choose to do or not do. To achieve your dreams, you must become the person that’s able to accomplish those dreams. It’s as simultaneously easy and difficult as that.

So, you should ask yourself, what are your dreams?

And, more importantly, what would the person who is living that dream look like?

What do they need to know about? Who do they need to know? How would that person spend their time?

Now, how can you begin moving toward being more like that person one day at a time? Are you moving that way now? If so, congratulations. If you aren’t, then you aren’t alone. Andy Hargadon famously said, “For most of us, 20 years of experience is really 1 year of experience repeated 20 times.”

The Most Important Thing About Self-Improvement

If you want to begin the process of self-improvement, the most important thing is to simply start. Begin the JABBED process. Even just one small step per day in the right direction can add up to tremendous progress over time as we saw above.

You’re not going to have it all figured out on day one, figuring out the path is a big part of the journey. If you are putting in effort, you will be a little wiser in a few weeks or months, which may even change your dreams or goals altogether. But, if you are learning new skills and developing new relationships and simply getting “better” than you were yesterday, you can leverage those experiences, relationships, and that knowledge into any number of different directions.

Self-improvement takes time and pressure, like making a diamond. If you apply a lot of pressure, it can happen a little faster, but, some transformations, some developments, and some lessons simply take some time. Warren Buffett famously said, “You can’t have a baby in a month by getting 9 women pregnant.”

Apply the constant pressure toward becoming the person that you want to be, but, retain your patience and remember that anything truly great takes time to build.

Thanks for joining JABBED

This blog is about the quest to be JABBED. We will look at all aspects of the Just A Bit Better Every Day life. Financial, personal, family, success/career, health. If any of these areas fall apart, they affect all the others, so, we will look at all of them and seek to gradually improve in all of them.

I certainly don’t have all the answers, but, I plan to enjoy trying to figure out new things as I write this blog. This is very much an experiment and something I am writing for myself as much as you.

Thanks very much for reading and joining on this journey. Feel free to email your thoughts at at any time or to comment.
